Altus, OK, Retail Associate Shirley Worrell didn’t panic when a young mother raced into the Post Office pleading for help because her two-week old baby had stopped breathing. Worrell asked a co-worker to call 911 and immediately began performing mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on the infant and continued until paramedics arrived. Her efforts paid off as the infant gasped and then started to cry while she was carrying him to the ambulance. “It was the sweetest cry I ever heard,” said Worrell.



Her quick response and first aid knowledge saved the baby’s life. “We’ve got a genuine hero here,” said Postmaster Mike Engle.
